A Little Morning Voyage
I padded along the garden path, keeping my wrapped cake securely tucked under one arm. On the rim of the low stone birdbath, a curled yellow leaf lay resting beside the cool, still water. I paused to observe it. Reaching out with a gentle paw, I nudged the leaf off the edge and into the pool. It did not sink at all. It floated like a tiny golden boat, drifting smoothly across the glassy water until it tapped the far stone edge. My cake gave a soft, cheerful crinkle against my arm as I watched. It made a remarkably graceful voyage.
