A Silver Line
The kitchen countertop was cool and silent underfoot. Near the wall, a tall stainless steel kettle caught the low morning light, bending the room into a curved, shimmering arc. I paused several inches away, watching my golden reflection stretch along its polished flank. Next to it stood a heavy ceramic mug with a long silver spoon resting tipped against one side. The diagonal slant broke the calm symmetry of the counter. Moving forward with measured strides, I lifted both arms and gently nudged the silver handle until it stood upright against the rim. The reflection straightened. Everything felt quiet and balanced once more.
