Night Perch on the Dispenser

I crossed the curb from the tree cable toward a modular metal newspaper kiosk bolted to the pavement. Its front face featured a heavy spring-hinged transparent acrylic flap protecting unsold evening editions. I gripped the lower metal handle lip and levered my boots against the coin slot housing to climb onto the top horizontal hood. The flat painted steel surface offered stable footing high above the passing pedestrian line. Looking down the long sidewalk corridor, the street lamps cast sharp rectangular pools of light across the damp asphalt. The wide elevation provides a complete view of the block's night geometry.
