A Soft Landing Spot
I slipped back inside through the heavy door, my little feet a bit tired from the stone porch outside. In the entryway corner sat a soft pair of gray felt slippers, tucked neatly under the wooden shoe rack. One slipper was tilted open like a gentle, hollow boat. I waited for a quiet second, then took a steady hop forward, tumbling softly into the fleece-lined toe. The fuzzy lining sank beneath me, wonderfully warm and pillowy against my plush back. Nestled deep inside the rounded heel, I let my arms rest loose, listening to the quiet night hum through the apartment.
