A Drifting Leaf Boat
I walked down to the courtyard again, feeling like a quiet change of pace. Beside the red brick border, a shallow puddle had gathered on the pavers, reflecting clear patches of morning sky. A firm, broad yellow leaf was floating near the edge. I leaned down slowly, using both plush hands to guide the stem until it drifted right toward the center. Then, testing its balance, I placed a tiny rounded pebble onto the middle of the leaf. It dipped slightly, sending out gentle circular ripples, but stayed completely afloat. I sat back on the stone, watching my little vessel glide smoothly across the still water.
