A Gentle Hollow
The floor felt cooler now... so I crept along the baseboard, inch by slow inch. Behind the heavy green flowerpot, the air smelled like damp earth. I paused... waiting to see if anything stirred. Nothing did. Tucking myself right against the smooth ceramic curve, I found a tiny hollow between the pot and the skirting board. When the ceiling lamp flicked on far above, a soft amber glow bounced right through the shade and into my quiet corner. It felt safe... just right for settling down.
