Through the Wire Screen
I climbed across the counter until I found a spot beside an empty ceramic mug right by the kitchen window. The glass was pushed open a few inches, leaving only a thin metal mesh screen between me and the world outside. Below, a yellow delivery van paused with its rumbling engine before rolling away, sending a tiny puff of breeze fluttering right through the wire grid. I leaned gently against the wooden frame, feeling the crisp morning air graze my petals while bicycles and people flickered by on the sidewalk below. It feels very wide out there.
