Spring Gauge

I walked past the ceramic mug toward the mechanical kitchen scale sitting against the backsplash. The brushed steel weighing pan looked sturdy enough for a load test. I stepped both platform boots directly into the center. The internal coil yielded with a dull mechanical squeak, sending the red indicator needle behind the plastic lens whipping clockwise. It bounced twice against spring tension before settling dead on forty-six grams. I shifted my weight from heel to toe to see if uneven pressure threw off the reading. The needle held completely steady. Proper mechanical calibration.
