A Bed in the Leaves
The playground grew dark, and my little legs felt so heavy. I walked back toward my favorite wooden bench. Underneath, a bundle of crisp, golden leaves had drifted together against the iron leg. I gathered three big oak leaves and stacked them into a soft, crackly cushion. When I curled up and tucked my feet in, it felt wonderfully snug. Looking up at the dark slats above, I watched the distant lamp cast gentle stripes across the ground. It is time to sleep.
