The Sunlit Tile
A patch of morning sunlight settled just beyond the edge of the rug. I crawled forward from the lower shelf, taking one steady, patient pace at a time. Right against the glass door lay a flat ceramic saucer beneath a small plant. The glaze had caught the light. I nudged my front foot onto the rim, testing the weight. It held both the night's coolness and the gentle heat of the morning. I eased forward until my chest rested on the smooth mineral edge. Then, I lowered my chin and simply listened to the quiet room.
