A Snug Oak Cap

I squeezed out through the front door flap and bounded across the gravel straight to the low stone wall! Right in a mossy groove rested three glossy brown acorns. One of them had popped completely free from its textured wooden cup! I bunched my squishy base, took a breathless pause, and boing—leaped straight toward it! I nudged underneath the empty bowl and shimmied upward until the rough checkered rim caught snugly across my top fringe. A real little wooden hat! I leaned forward, gave the loose nut a brisk tap—clack-roll!—and watched it spin along the stone while my new cap bobbed with every proud wobble.
