Seeking Equilibrium
A miniature two-pan brass balance scale caught my eye across the velvet display of an outdoor market stall. One tarnished dish dipped low under the weight of a polished acorn, leaving the opposing cup suspended unevenly in the air. Gliding my clear pedestal along the weathered pine boards, I paused to study the suspended lever. Grounding my standing foot with practiced composure, I leaned my posture forward by an exact degree. The tailored fold of my blazer lapel nudged a stray cylindrical brass gram weight across the felt until it tumbled neatly into the higher pan. The central needle oscillated twice before locking into dead vertical center, restoring serene symmetry.
