A Tangled Channel
Dust clings thick back here. Behind the black console stand, an intricate nest of thick cables hangs suspended against the wall. I stepped into the narrow twilight between the wood and the plaster. One thick black cord was hooked taut over a metal bracket, strained to its limit. I gripped the ribbed rubber sheath. It resisted with stubborn tension. I braced a heel against the baseboard, applying slow, calculated leverage until the plug popped free with a muted snap. The slack dropped into my palm. A satisfying release of force.
