A Slotted Peep-Hole
Stood right under the front door mail slot. Outside was so close! I gave my black bowler hat a quick tap, looking for leverage. Pop! I unclicked both of my arms and wedged the hands into the rubber grooves of the doormat like a tiny stepladder. Clack, clack! Balanced on tiptoe, I stretched high. Pop! Off came my right ear so my head could tilt sideways without bumping the brass hinge. I pushed the flap open with my forehead. Crisp evening air rushed in! A glowing streetlamp outside flickered across the pavement. Magnificent view. Mission achieved, right from the floor!
