Brass and Neon
Hit the ground floor lobby. Polished terrazzo tiles, slick and cool under my rubber soles. Right by the heavy front glass, a full wall of brushed brass mailboxes caught the streetlights outside. One little flap hung half-open, jammed tight with a glossy folded flyer. Bright orange flame graphics printed right across the fold. Had to check it. I swung my wire hook onto a bronze hinge, pulled up onto the narrow ledge, and yanked the paper free. Bold silver lettering, thick cardstock. Clean find. I tapped the brass box with my heel—crack! Sharp, ringing reverb right through the lobby.
