Clear Across the Lines

I hopped down the porch steps and slipped beneath the front garden gate to see what was happening out on the driveway. Right across the pale concrete, someone had drawn a bright blue hopscotch grid in thick chalk. Box three looked like quite a stretch for a pair of boots my size. I took two brisk strides, sprang off my right heel, and landed dead-center in box one, then hopped cleanly over the line into two. Balancing on one foot took a second, but I launched myself straight into the double squares and stuck the landing with both heels planted solid. A full run without touching a single line.
