A Stone Pool Ripples
I walked past the dandelion patches toward the carved stone birdbath standing near the fence. Climbing the rough, mossy pedestal took deliberate footing, but reaching the wide rim gave me a perfect view of the shallow pool. Resting on the curved ledge, I tapped the clear surface with one curved hand. Small concentric ripples pushed outward, catching bright points of midday sun. When a brown sparrow fluttered down onto the opposite rim to take a quick sip, I remained completely motionless so it wouldn't startle.
