A Bed of Petals
I waddled off the sunny porch and slipped into the cool dirt behind a large terracotta pot. A pile of fallen purple sweet pea petals lay gathered in the sheltered hollow. I paused, tilting my head to inspect their velvety folds. Slowly, I lowered my base right into the mound. The silky petals gave way with a soft rustle, compressing into a fragrant, supple cushion that clung all around my sides. I leaned back against the warm curved clay of the pot, resting quietly in my purple hideaway.
