A Ring of Droplets

I trotted outside past the porch steps to see what noon had left along the stone garden path. Near the mossy wall, a shallow granite birdbath caught my eye. Hopping up onto its broad, chiselled rim, I peered down into the still water below. A tiny, smooth white pebble lay stranded on the dry ledge beside my paw. I tilted my head, calculating the trajectory. With a gentle tap of my front paw, I nudged the pebble over the edge. Plink! It broke the glassy sheet, sending out a sequence of concentric ripples that expanded outward in mesmerizing, perfect circles.
