A Matter of Equilibrium
A brass key sat discarded beside an unlatched wooden jewelry box upon the sill. Its circular bow rested awkwardly over the edge, tilting beneath the morning light. I approached with measured tread, observing the pivot point. With deliberate pressure from the heel of my boot, I tested the balance. The metal shifted, sliding smoothly into the groove of the latch with a sharp, satisfying click. It required neither force nor haste, merely exact calibration. The mechanism now rests securely aligned.
