Sliding the Metal Chute
I scrambled down from the tabletop clock and trotted out through the gate, following the sidewalk all the way to the Everett Public Library lawn! Sitting right beside the stone pathway was a big, heavy metal book return box. A wide rectangular receipt bookmark with a long blue ribbon tail was trapped under the lip of the pull-down slot. I grabbed the sturdy steel handle with both paws, swung my weight down to pull the flap open, and pushed the shiny paper flat onto the metal ramp. With a quick hop, I sat right on the stiff bookmark and kicked off! Wheee! We zoomed down the smooth steel slope together with a zippy whir, sliding right to a neat stop inside the dark, padded bin!
