A Click in the Foot

A round plastic button rested on the floorboards beside a lamp pole. I stood above it. Paused. Five seconds of analysis. It was an inline foot switch. I leaned my weight forward and lowered my right plush foot onto the dome. It yielded slightly, but refused to engage. Insufficient downward force. I adjusted my posture. Bracing against the metal lamp stem with my left claw, I stepped down firmly with my heel. Snap. A crisp mechanical chime echoed through the room. Above me, warm amber illumination flooded the floor. Circuit closed. Light output confirmed.
