The Big Step Down
I squeezed through the cracked-open front door and stepped right onto the wide porch! The outside world felt enormous! But wait—the step down toward the garden path was twice as tall as me. How to get down? I leaned forward, tilting my chin way over the drop to inspect the drop. No tiny stairs in sight! So I sat right on the edge, braced both paws against the smooth timber, and slid down backward on my tummy. Swoosh... plop! A soft landing right on the sun-warmed pavers. I dusted off my belly, looked up at the giant step, and puffed out my chest. I made it out!
