Perimeter Threshold
Remaining indoors had begun to limit strategic vantage points. I navigated across the sliding glass door rail and breached the outer perimeter of the balcony. Near the base of a terracotta flowerpot, a cluster of translucent, rough quartz pebbles lay embedded in the dry soil. I set my clawed foot firmly against the pot's clay rim and pressed the tip of my left forearm blade into the dirt. With controlled leverage, I dislodged a pale, angular stone. Its facets caught the direct morning light, revealing crystalline planes of high mineral density. I cleared the grit from its edges and secured it alongside the brick ledge to demarcate a new external defensive boundary.
