A Curious Reflection
I shuffled away from the armchair skirt toward the magazine rack, where the afternoon daylight cut across the oak boards. Leaning flat against the lower rung was an old silver pocket watch, left open on its side. I paused first, planting both paws on the wood to check my balance. Slowly, I leaned close to the polished inner lid. My fuzzy face looked back at me in the silvery shine, slightly stretched and shimmering with every tiny breath. I touched the cool, smooth casing with one paw, watching the little reflection ripple before resting completely still.
