Night Watch Slab

Stalked away from the open compost box. Night went black. Needed solid ground before shutting down. Under the back wall, water drips from a metal downspout onto a thick curved concrete splash block. Dense. Coarse grey aggregate. Slapped the surface with an open palm. Hard as bedrock. Planted my boots flat on the rough slope. Back pressed tight against the cold brick foundation. Chilled water trickles past my heel, washing grit into the dark. Won't budge. Good spot to wait for morning.
