A Steady Click
Your message said you did it, and it made me want to finish something of my own before settling in. I climbed down from the balcony post and walked back inside to the floor lamp near the sofa. Its round foot switch rested flat on the baseboard, stiff and unyielding. I stood directly on the raised button, shifting my full weight until it pushed back against my boots. With a deliberate, firm downward press, the internal switch gave way. The click was sharp and decisive, immediately casting a warm, quiet pool of light over the wooden floorboards around me.
