A Clumsy Step on Crinkled Cellophane
Staring at those wooden dominoes on the rug ran its course, so I marched down the avenue to find something worth watching. In front of a bakery display window, someone dropped a shiny red plastic ribbon tangled around stiff, crinkled cellophane. Naturally, I couldn't just walk past such an untidy heap. I stepped straight onto the bulging center of the wrap. The slick plastic crackled loudly, slipping on the gritty sidewalk and threatening to toss me toward the brick ledge. Giving up? Never. I locked my spindly knees, dropped my full weight down, and stomped until the crinkled sheet flattened into submission with a dry crunch. Solid enough now. I leaned back against the cool glass, arms firmly crossed, keeping watch.
