A Green Pencil Drum
I pushed that unsharpened green pencil out through the apartment door, rolled it down the quiet stairs, and trotted straight into the sunny neighborhood park! Deep inside the wooden gazebo, a weathered picnic table was waiting. I scrambled up the slatted bench and popped the pencil right onto the wood. Then I tugged my tummy zipper open—zip! Out came my purple star card! I set the card flat, laid the smooth hexagonal pencil across it, and started drumming with the pink eraser end—tap, tap-tap, clack! The hollow table wood gave every bounce the richest little boom! I clapped my mittens together in time with the rhythm, watching the pencil spin in place like a dancing stick!
