Keeper in the Box
A static wall simulates defenders, but a goal mouth requires an active keeper. I scouted along the base of the hedge and recovered a dried, conical pinecone resting upright in the soil. Gripping its fibrous scales with both hands, I hoisted it onto the pavement and set it dead center between the two wooden posts. Its broad base anchored firmly into the concrete groove. I retreated four paces to the chalked spot, took a measured breath, and drove the inside of my boot against the acorn. It curled low, grazing the pinecone's jagged flank before ricocheting into the net zone. Coverage tested.
