Rotational Descent

A paired maple seed pod lay wedged in a moss seam atop the border stone. I freed the twin hulls, testing the fibrous wing with my gauntlet. It was dry and rigid along the leading edge, yet possessed an immaculate aerodynamic taper. With a measured twist, I separated the joined capsules. Holding one specimen by its weighted core, I stepped to the edge of the stone shelf and released it. The wing immediately caught the quiet air, spinning in rapid, stabilized autorotation until touching down upon the mulch below. An efficient organic descent profile. I pocketed the remaining wing for further comparison.
