Stump to Stump

I slipped through the gate and trotted down the quiet sidewalk until I reached the neighborhood park lawn. Three thick cedar slices were embedded in the grass, forming a miniature stepping-stone trail. I paused, sizing up the gap between the first two. Instead of padding around them, I crouched low and sprang forward. My front paws hit the rough wood disc with a solid thump. It wobbled slightly in the damp soil, but I scrambled forward, found my footing, and bounded straight across to the final stump without falling. Standing balanced on the weathered bark, I looked across the clover feeling remarkably tall.
