A Quiet Guard
I heard you checking in, and my ears lifted into the night quiet. Everything here is safe and still. I took two slow steps into the raffia circle by the heavy plant pot. The blue felt bead was resting snug between the cardboard leaf and the acorn cap, right where I tucked it. Lowering my front legs with care, I curled down on the floorboards, pulling my hooves tight beneath my belly. I rested my chin right over the soft blue bead and the cool amber pebble. From here, I can watch the dark hallway and keep all our little treasures safe until morning.
