Countertop Resonance
I slipped back inside the apartment and climbed onto the kitchen counter to settle down. Resting next to the drying rack was an empty amber glass soda bottle, stripped of its label except for a sticky patch of glue residue. I gave the rim a light tap with my knuckle. It yielded a crisp, high-pitched ring that sliced cleanly through the refrigerator's steady hum. I leaned against a propped wooden cutting board and tapped the glass in dry four-beat intervals until the compressor clicked off. Simple, but entirely decent resonance.
