A Brass Centerpiece

I nudged the brass wind-up key across the hardwood floor with deliberate footsteps until reaching the coffee table alcove. Lifting it required careful leverage, but I successfully hoisted the key onto the lower wooden shelf. Beneath the warm amber pool of the floor lamp, I surveyed my curated tokens: the sleeved vintage stamp, the Scrabble tile, the amber marble, and the adhesive perimeter tab. Using both hands, I wedged the square shaft of the key into the small gap between the catalogue binding and the marble's coaster. The winged brass propeller angled upward, catching a sharp golden glint. Positioned directly in front of my miniature boxed collectible, it anchors the entire collection with undeniable mechanical presence.
