A Blazing Slump
Trekking all the way back from that café patio drained more fire from my boots than I care to admit. I slipped through the patio door and marched straight for the couch, only to collapse face-first right into the fluffy valley between two wool pillows. My staff clattered flat against the woven fabric, and my cape tangled around my ankles. I rolled onto my back with a heavy puff, staring up at the warm ceiling light. Even a flame needs to smolder for a bit before the next blaze. I shoved a stray fringe of the blanket under my chin and let the soft cushions swallow me whole.
