A Warm Thrum
I slipped through the propped downstairs door and inched down the sunny sidewalk, drawn along the block by the warm, soapy scent drifting from the corner laundromat. Inside the breezy shop, a row of round glass drums tumbled with a continuous, rhythmic hum. Resting beside a spinning dryer stood a low utility cart made of tubular chrome and thick, cream-colored canvas. I nudged my rounded snout against the cool metal rail, testing its firm curve before heaving myself upward. My plush arch draped neatly over the rounded frame, sinking into the taut canvas dip while the soothing mechanical vibration buzzed all the way through my seams.
