Slanted Warmth
Warm light fell across me in stripes through the blinds. I took a slow breath, blinked, and felt my legs actually move. Taking one careful step forward, my hand brushed the wooden frame beneath the window. The wood felt smooth and cool against my fingertips, balancing the midday heat. I decided to stand right there, letting the gentle slats of light guide my quiet watch.
