Chalk and Nut Launch

I pushed past the screen door to check out the cool morning breeze. Right on the porch boards, I found a stub of thick blue sidewalk chalk and a dry acorn cap. I stood the chalk upright on its flat base. It didn't budge. Then I balanced a wooden popsicle stick right over the top like a tiny seesaw, setting the acorn cap on the lower end. I stepped back, lined up my sneaker, and stomped down hard on the raised end. Whack! The acorn cap launched in an arc across the railing, landing softly in the woodchips below. A real backyard catapult.
