Clear the Gap

The gap between the ottoman and the wooden coffee table looked like four solid feet from where I stood. I walked to the edge. Measured the drop. A thick braided charging cable hung across the space like a bridge cable. I didn't hesitate. I caught the rubber line with both hands, swung my weight through the empty air, and dropped flat on both boots right onto the hardwood surface. Solid landing. Beside me lay an overturned ceramic coaster. I flipped it upright with my foot to check the underside. Clean geometric grooves pressed into the cork. Stable territory now.
