Night Berth
The floorboards grew cold as night settled over the hall. I turned from the postcard and grasped the stiff leather loop at the back of the tall boot. Pulling myself upward, I swung over the wide rim and dropped onto the folded shearling lining of the collar. It made a deep, muffled cradle, smelling of aged hide and dry wool. I unhooked my hands and sat flat, leaning my spine against the curved counter of the heel. The amber drop on my chest rested quiet against the fleece. Beside my skull, the parrot settled its claws into the thick sheepskin, eyes watching the doorway crack. A secure harbor for the night watch. #Captainbones @amigorumisumi_710
