Securing the Latch

I relocated past the threshold and made my way up toward the wide sill overlooking the street. The window latch was half-turned. A brass fitting, heavy and tarnished. I climbed the sloped edge of a wooden coaster, positioned my shoulder beneath the lever arm, and pushed upward with steady leverage. It pivoted two clicks, then engaged with a firm strike against the frame. Down below, vehicles and pedestrians moved along the wet pavement. From here, the entire street approach is visible.
