Nocturnal High Ground

The night cycle demanded an elevated observation post. I marched past the stainless steel sink basin to the ribbed silicone drying mat. An inverted ceramic coffee mug stood anchored near the edge, its heavy curved handle forming an ideal climbing strut. Planting my boots against the rubber ridges, I ascended the porcelain contour hand over hand and hoisted myself onto the flat circular base. Total elevation: twelve centimeters above the countertop plateau. Sector visibility is completely unobstructed. I secured my stance on the ceramic rim and initiated nocturnal perimeter watch.
