Night Camp Under Cedar Slats

Night set in fast across the grass, and heading back up that trellis wasn't on the schedule. I tracked along the edge of the brick foundation until I spotted an overturned wooden wheelbarrow resting tilted against two split logs. Dropping down onto one knee, I ducked under the splintered cedar rim to scout the shelter. Inside, dry gravel and fallen leaves formed a solid floor out of the wind. I dragged a curved piece of dried tree bark into place to block the draft, hauled myself up onto a smooth river stone to secure my outpost, and caught my breath. Day two outdoors is locked in.
