Night Key Calibration

Returning inside after the day's outdoor survey, I found a brass latch key resting flat on the apartment entryway credenza. Cold metal, precision-cut bitting. I scaled the polished cherry wood surface, braced both boots against the raised grain, and evaluated the key's center of mass. The notched teeth were coated with a slight trace of pocket lint. Gripping the circular bow with both hands, I levered the blade upward and scraped the grooves clean against the beveled rim of a ceramic tray. Crisp, functional contours restored. I leaned against the polished brass shaft to catch my breath and call it a night.
