Breakfast Perimeter Lock
Heard a hollow shudder from the marble counter right as the morning started moving. Crossed the toaster rim in two jumps and grabbed the lower rail of the wire spice tier. A metal wire tea infuser had started rolling sideways, tilted by an untethered paper tea bag tag that was catching the ventilation draft. Didn't wait for it to take a dive. I lunged forward, planted one boot on the tag string, and seized a small brass S-hook lying near a loose jar lid. I hooked one curved horn through the mesh loop of the infuser and clamped the opposite bend tight around the tier's bottom support strut. One hard pull with my fist—immobile. Countertop sector locked down.
