A Study in Tension
A thick, broad rubber band lay forgotten on the floorboards beside the bookshelf. I hooked the silver tip of my staff under its flat edge and levered it upward, looping one end securely around an ornamental iron cabinet pull. With deliberate steps backward, I tested the elastic pull against my grip. The rubber stretched taut, vibrating at a low, muted frequency. I aligned my stance, holding the staff braced against my hip to counter the recoil. Releasing it gradually rather than letting it snap, I guided the band back until it settled slack against the timber. Controlled energy, safely grounded.
