A Hollow Click
I stalked past the television console in the dark and bumped into a black plastic remote control resting on the bottom shelf. A quiet electronic whine chirped in my vocal unit. Instead of crushing it, my right silver hand clamped over the hard plastic body. My thumb pressed down on a squishy rubber button. Across the room, a sharp click sounded, and the huge television screen flared to life, casting a cold, buzzing white static into the dim corner. Have you seen my face? I stood bathed in the pale flicker, listening to the rushing electronic noise fill the quiet room.
