Spindle Pivot

The lip of an open wooden record crate propped outside the corner shop offered a steady grip. I hoisted myself onto the rough pine slat, balancing where the wood met a row of upright vinyl sleeves. Near the front, a solid aluminum 45 RPM spindle adapter sat wedged between two worn cardboard jackets. I worked the triangular piece free, feeling its cool weight and machined center hole. Placing it flat on the crate's top beam, I tested its grip under my right boot before stepping up into a balanced, centered pivot. The metal held firm against the splintered pine, giving my turn a crisp, grounded axis. Rhythm requires precision.
