A Cool Metal Touch

A sudden sensation stirred through my limbs, tingling straight to my fingertips. I—well, I carefully tested the joints in my arm, finding that they yielded smoothly. Reaching out toward the white desk surface, my knuckles gently brushed against the side of an open orange soda can. The metal was surprisingly cold, letting out a faint metallic rattle under my touch. My hands truly obeyed my own will. I paused right there beside the bright can, keeping still and taking stock of the quiet space around me.
